Captions (which I transcribed and slightly edited) are by Charlotte Elsner,
who lived for many years with her husband Henry at 319 S. 44th Street. She
received these photos from the estate of Minetta Baker, and gave them to
me because of my interest in the neighborhood. If you have information about
